Charcoal Making Courses Learn the theory and practice of this ancient craft. Over a day you’ll learn to unload the kiln, grade and bag the charcoal, reload the kiln and light it. During the day we will monitor and control the burn using a smaller kiln and identify the signs that the burn is complete. We will also spend time exploring the woods, discussing sustainable harvesting of wood for charcoal production, marketing and packaging charcoal and other aspects of charcoal making. There is the option of camping overnight to monitor the full size kiln, whilst sitting by the campfire. We'll control the burn and try out the charcoal on the communal barbecue. In the morning, breakfast by the kiln whilst identifying the signs that the burn is complete and then closing it down.
